Information - Aviation Medicals
General
As of 1 January 2021, we are no longer able to perform EASA medical examinations, only UK CAA and US FAA.
Note we are unable to perform UK CAA initial class one pilot medicals, for these, applicants must attend an Aeromedical Centre (AeMC).
We do not perform UK CAA class three ATCO medicals.
We also are not taking on any new UK CAA class two or LAPL clients due workload. Existing class two/LAPL clients only may continue to book.
We no longer perform Cabin Crew medicals.
Preparation for your medical
UK pilot applicants MUST submit their medical application on the CAA medical records system (Cellma) via the online CAA Customer Portal and pay the associated CAA fee in advance of their medical. Paper-based applications are no longer be accepted, except for cases of technical problems with Cellma, and we will be unable to proceed with the medical if this process has not been completed. Please note that all applicants need a CAA Customer Portal account AND to have applied for, and been granted access to, the “Medical Service” before they can access the Cellma system to submit and pay for their medical application. Setting this up with the CAA can take a number of days and I am unable to assist, so do it without delay if you have a CAA pilot medical appointment booked.
US FAA applicants MUST complete their medical application on MedXPress prior to their appointment and bring a note of their confirmation number, that will have been emailed to them. There is no option to use paper medical forms. If you have declared a significant medical history on your FAA application, please contact me ahead of your appointment so that I can check the requirements, such as any medical reports you may need to bring.
Please bring an acceptable form of photographic ID (UK or International Passport, UK Driving Licence photo card or UK Airside Pass) to your medical appointment.
Please bring your last medical certificate if you have previously been issued with one. UK pilot applicants must have their CAA reference number to hand.
Note that you MUST come prepared to provide a urine sample at all medicals. I may need to refuse to see you if you are unable to provide the sample at the start of the medical. Urine is tested for blood, protein and glucose.
Female applicants should note that while there is no intimate examination during the medical, if an ECG is required, it will be necessary to have access to the chest area for placement of the electrodes. Please be mindful of this and dress appropriately, e.g. sports bra, or it will not be possible to complete the medical.
Male applicants do not need to shave chest hair off in preparation for an ECG.
Please do not apply skin cream to your chest, wrists or ankles, as ECG electrodes then tend not to adhere.
UK CAA pilots requiring visual correction should have the MED162 form completed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist when required:
Class 1: 5-yearly if: (i) the retractive error is between -3.0 and -6.0 dioptres or +3 and +5 dioptres; (ii) astigmatism or anisometropia is between 2.0 and 3.0 dioptres. 2-yearly if: (i) the refractive error is greater than -6.0 dioptres or +5.0 dioptres; (ii) astigmatism or anisometropia exceeds 3.0 dioptres.
